Ned who is a colonial soldier, met nes at the harbor when nes is doing porter work for fun. it was love at first sight for these two. then the two start to communicate more frequently and apparently became friends. ned found out that nes actually part of keraton, he was on runaway when he met him at the harbor. the two lovebirds can`t be too obvious because isn`t allowed inside keraton, touching hand accidentally would make them blush and flustered. they go to beach ther, sometimes visit the city, and relax at nes` rice field. nes sometimes helping the local to plowing the rice field and planting them. ned want to help but nes decline because it will make him full of dirt. ned`s skin is so white, nes didn`t want any dirt seen on that porcelain like skin. so ned just sit at the side and telling nes about anything that his county had, like trains and tulips. nes just listen while doing his thing, thinking maybe sometimes in the future his country would have anything that ned said to him. it will be cool. sadly, ned must go back to his country because japan come and deport all dutch soldiers. of course ned and nes still exchange letters, they`re getting more ve and start to write some `i love you` down there. ned one said that he coming back to Indonesia, if course nes so happy. nes is now the District head, rushing to go to the city to meet ned, only to found that his lover was captured and ready to be executed by young soldiers. nes can`t di anything since he`ll be seen as a traitor. all he can do is scream the word `i love you!` in dutch before he get dragged out and he hears gunshots from the building behind him.
